Google to fuel Podcasting Ad Revenue Growth

According to a couple of articles I scanned today Ad Revenue from Podcasting is predicted to really grow and the growth may be pushed by Google. According to a report to be released by eMarketer this week podcasting advertising will quintuple over the next five years from $80 million in 2006 to $400 million in 2011. This is small compared to the interactive advertising and the traditional advertising markets (and the figures probably relate to the US) but it does bode well for the podcasting production and advertising markets.

Mediaweek have reported that eMarketer analyst James Belcher is predicting that Google will fuel much of the growth. He expects that by 2008 Google will have developed a version of AdSense that can be used with podcasts, allowing podcasters to add advertising to their casts.
Media week says:

Despite the small base of users, podcasting represents an attractive medium, given its targeting, its low cost and its obsessive/passionate user base, says the report. “These people constitute an excellent media target,” Belcher said. “It’s a self-selecting medium. These people are into it, and they’re really into it.”

Interesting one to watch and see what happens when podcasting gets googled.

netvibes warms to podcasts

listening to podcasts just got easier. i scan 55 rss feeds quickly in Netvibes.com and it used to allow you follow enclosure links to dock into its own flash player. Well it still does that but now it shows items/posts with enclosures in the initial panel view. The icons are links to play or download the media.

netvibes is a feature rich web based rss reader / feed manager; supports OPML in/out and has tabs also!

stop the lights - RTÉ take on web 2.0

RTÉ is to digitise its entire archive and is looking into featuring user-generated content on its website, siliconrepublic.com reports

when RTÉ press released on their podcasting output in Dec 2006 SR asked me for a comment.
Brian Greene, head of the podcasting representative body in Ireland and winner of the Irish Internet Association’s podcaster of the year award, said RTÉ’s adoption of the medium was a positive development. “The entire independent sector is still larger than the RTÉ output, but the fact that they’re doing more podcasting is good,” he said.

Greene pointed out that the broadcaster is sitting on decades’ worth of material that could be of interest to listeners if it was made available via podcast. “Let’s see some older archives, original music and more diverse programming,” he suggested.

Balcony TV unplugged by YouTube

YouTube has deleted the account of Balcony TV. The vidcasters 220+ videos are off line and Balcony TV are not sure why. breaking details at BalconyTV.com
in a statement there Stephen O'Regan says

BALCONY TV REMOVED FROM YOUTUBE!!!
ALL VIDEOS REMOVED
Its true we are very sorry to say. We have just checked the BalconyTV YouTube account and it seems all our videos have been removed and our account has been disabled. The first we sensed of this was a couple of weeks ago when the Dirty 9s video was removed for apparent copyright reasons. The same happened with Super Jimenez and Barry McCabe the following week.
We are guessing that all videos will now be inactive on various groups MySpaces...we are very sorry about this.
For most acts we still have the raw footage of performances...but alas we have lost a few along the way due to technical mishaps.
This is a shock to us as it may be to you.
Watch this space...and keep reading the BalconyTV Blog for updates.

Blooming eck.
