podcasts prove there's power in the (electrical) union

Unions are turning to new media such as podcasts to counter the $110 million industrial relations campaign by employers and the Federal Government that will affect the nation's 10 million workers.

Phil Cleary, a former independent member for the federal seat of Wills, and now a podcaster for the Electrical Trades Union, says the union's podcast, The Spark, launched last month, unites workers worldwide.

'Podcasting is just a great way to communicate with our members,' says Mr Cleary, a former radio personality who is handling the union's communications strategy. 'A hundred years ago, unions talked about industrial workers of the world uniting. Now the technology enables members to unite around issues.'
